Description: QUANCOM Informationssysteme GmbH is a German limited liability company. It was incorporated more than ten years ago and caters mostly to German clients. QUANCOM specializes in devices that monitor and measure computer performance. The company also provides customized solutions for its clients, including the standardization of computer data for networks.

QUANCOM’s central office is located in Wesseling, Germany. Its Managing Director is programmer Michael Reimer.

QUANCOM is best known for its computer monitoring products. Some of the products the company produces are watchdog cards, relay cards, prototyping boards, sensors, and USB accessories. Watchdog cards are used in several programs that are required to remain active permanently, such as network servers and supervision processes. The cards reset the computer if a program or the computer itself crashes.

Relay cards are responsible for managing electrical currents, while prototyping boards are designed to test new circuits. QUANCOM creates different kinds of sensors for measuring revolutions, temperature, and currents. The company also distributes USB accessories such as hubs and cables.

The company produces software that centralizes control over all its products. QUANCOM’s software-centralizing product is the QUANCOM Driver Library or QLIB which possesses two components. One computer serves as the client while the machine containing the QUANCOM device acts as a server. Commands done in the client’s machine are transmitted through TCP/IP to the server machine.

The client machine requires the use of QLIB cards in order to connect with the server machine. The client also has to install the QLIB server software in the server machine. The QLIB runs on the Windows 95/98 and 2000/NT 4.0 operating systems and allows remote control over programs written in different programming languages. It enables the client to program up to sixteen QUANCOM products at the same time.

QUANCOM also provides products that facilitate communication between different computer parts or computers in a network. A/D and D/A conversion boards permit the conversion of analog to digital signals and vice versa. The General Purpose Interface Bus or GPIB allows several QUANCOM measuring instruments to communicate with one another. Serial interface boards are utilized in data transmissions that are over ten meters apart.

QUANCOM also manufactures and distributes the National Marine Electronics Association Module or NMEA Module. It is commonly used to facilitate data streams. One of the uses of the NMEA Module is in identifying locations in global navigations systems.
