Its headquarters is located in Milpitas, California and has more than 3000 employees worldwide. It is the only known business, worldwide, that has so far acquired the rights for both manufacturing and selling all current major flash card formats. The list includes; but is not resticted to; CompactFlash®, MultiMediaCard™, SD™, miniSD™, microSD™, Reduced Size Multi-Media Card (RS-MMC™ ), Memory Stick PRO™ and other related Memory Stick® products, and some USB flash drives, and xD-Picture Card™. In 1988, Eli Harari PhD., along with former Intel colleague, Sanjay Mehrotra and Jack Yuan who was also a former colleague but this time from Hughes Microelectronics; launched their company. At Present, the executive officers include Eli Harari PhD as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer; Sanjay Mehrotra as President and Chief Operating Officer; Judy Bruner as Executive Vice President and Administration and Chief Financial Officer; Yoram Cedar as Executive Vice President and Mobile Business Unit and Corporate Engineering.
SanDisk manufactures, designs, markets, and develops flash storage card products which is being used in a wide variety of electronic systems and digital devices and has served consumers with its more than 200,000 retail storefronts worldwide. SanDisk has also licensed its technology to several of leading companies in the industry and has contributed in making the sales of digital cameras grow to levels never expected before. They also create digital audio/video players, flash drives with USB connectors, multi-function mobile phones and other digital consumer devices.
From 1994 to 1997, the company was able to release a series of compact flash cards and multi media cards. Within the first five years of the new millennium, they released a variety of SD cards, including Mini and Micro SD cards; memory sticks and Reduced-Size Multi Media Cards. In the last 3 years, they were able to successfully add the ScanDisk Cruzer USB Flash Drives, Sansa MP3 player, USB memory card readers, USB smart drives, Solid State Drives and another two types of memory sticks into their product line. Their most recent addition to their long list of products, which was released earlier this year, is the MegaSim High Capacity SIM Card.
Sandisk has also created a set of flash memory based portable media players. This device is a combination of portable storage and mp3/video player which they called the Sansa Clip, Sansa View and the Sansa Fuze.
SanDisk currently has more than 550 foreign patents, more than 860 patents 1440 patent applications still awaiting approval in the U.S.
