Description: Sony Corporation Entertainment, Incorporated is one of the subsidiaries of Sony Corporation. Otherwise know as SCE, it was founded on November 16, 1993. Its current headquarters is based in Tokyo, Japan; though it also has branch offices worldwide. SCE has various subsidiaries catering to its large number of markets in the four continents; namely, Oceania, Asia, America, and Europe.

Ken Kutaragi, who is considered the Father of the game console called PlayStation, was the first Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SCE. Kutaragi was also the first company President before turning the position over to Kaz Hirai on November 30, 2006. On the other hand, Jack Trettot is the President and CEO of SCE in America; while David Reeves is the company President and CEO of SCE in Europe.

Sony Corporation Entertainment’s products have been known to excel in the video game industry. It is particularly recognized for its production of video game consoles. SCE is best known as the producer of both the hardware and software of the popular PlayStation. The company also develops and publishes video games for the PlayStation system. Aside from PlayStation, SCE’s other popular products include PS2, PSP, and PS3.

The first PlayStation model was introduced on December 3, 1994. This was an event that marked the evolution of video game consoles. At that time, Nintendo’s Super Nintendo Entertainment System was the most popular among avid gamers.

After the phenomenal PS1, SCE produced the first PlayStation2 model was introduced on March 4, 2000. PS2 was based on a CPU. It is also the first video game console with a DVD playback function. Since its introduction, PS2 has become the world’s best-selling game console. It is followed by Xbox by Microsoft, Nintendo’s GameCube Nintendo, and then finally, Sega’s Dreamcast.

The PlayStation Portable a.k.a. PSP entered the market on December 12, 2004. PSP is the first handheld game console released by SCE. The latest SCE model, the PlayStation 3, was introduced on November 11, 2006. The two SCE product lines were initially introduced in Japan before being introduced in the international market.

SCE owns many game franchises such as Beyond the Beyond, Ape Escape, Dropship: United Peace Force, Colony Wars, Formula One, EyeToy, Hot Shots Golf, Gran Turismo, Intelligent Qube, Legend of Legaia, Jumping Flash!, Motor Toon Grand Prix, Okage: Shadow King, NCAA Final Four, Patapon, Shadow of the Colossus, Rogue Galaxy, and Xtreme Games to name a few.
