Description: The Georgia based manufacturing company Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. is primarily involved with the production of equipments for broadband transmissions, telecommunications, and cable television. The company was initially formed in 1951 by rogue engineers of Georgia Institute of Technology. The primary activity of the group was focused on the delivery of broadband transmission networks.

On September 29, 2005 the Scientific-Atlanta (Shanghai) Company Limited was said to have been acquired by another company. They later announced, on November 18, 2005 to be exact, that it would be acquired by Cisco Systems for 6.9 billion US dollars in cash. UB Video Incorporated was purchased on February the following year to further boost its broadband transmission network support. The company is currently part of the Service Provider Routing Technology Group under Cisco.

The company however, still retained the registration to the trademarks GainMaker, Continuum, Prisma, Explorer and PowerVu, along with the Scientific-Atlanta logo. Other customers that avail of Scientific-Atlanta’s services include Charter Communications Incorporated, Adelphia Communications Corporation, Cox Communications Incorporated, Comcast Corporation, Cablevision Systems, and AOL Time Warner Incorporated.
