Description: SGI stands for Silicon Graphics, Inc. and is often referred to as Silicon Graphics Computer Systems or SGCS. SGI was founded in 1982 by Dr. Jim H. Clark and Abbey Silverstone, a former Xerox executive along with seven graduate students and researchers from Stanford University where Clark was an Associate Professor. The group originally decided to focus on the production of 3D graphics display monitors. Today, it specializes in the development and manufacture of high performance computer hardware and software and computing solutions. SGI was conceptualized in California in 1981, but was reincorporated in 1990 in Delaware and is currently headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Its global manufacturing center is located in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

SGI also sells the largest addressable memory footprint in the market with 128 TB (Tera bytes), and a shared file system that allows users to access up to an Exabyte of data in a single file.
