Description: Sierra On-Line Incorporated was founded in the 1970s and it was known as On- Line Systems then. The company was founded by Ken and Roberta Williams. The two were also responsible for the adventure game known as Mystery house. The script was constructed by Roberta and Ken developed her work into a game.

The company adopted the name Sierra On-Line in 1980 and the headquarters was transferred from Los Angeles to Oakhurst. Soon after moving, Roberta Williams created her adventurous game known as “The Wizard and the Princess” which became a big hit and sold out 60 million copies. The firm then developed its most saleable game known as the “King’s Quest”.

Sierra On-Line had acquired lots of companies before merging with Cendent Software in 1996. A firm known as Dynamix became a part of Sierra in 1990, prompting Dynamix to expand its product range which included Red Baron and Aces. In 1992 Bright Star Technologies underwent a merger with Sierra On-Line. Other purchases made by the firm include the Paris-based Coktel Vision in 1993, Impressions Games in 1995, SubLogic, and Papyrus Design Group also in 1995.

The firm went on to acquire another firm known as Berkeley Systems, publisher of the series “You Don’t Know Jack” in 1997. However in November 1998, Sierra On-Line and its associated firms were taken over by Havas, SA, the largest French media company. After the purchase, the brand name of Sierra On-Line was given up in 2002. The firm was henceforth called Sierra Entertainment Incorporated, with Mike Ryder as the President.

The firm carried on the name Sierra Entertainment until 2007. It changed its name to Activision Blizzard after Vivendi Games, the parent company, decided a merger with the firm known as Activision.

Sierra Entertainment Incorporated is currently based in Bellevue, Washington. The firm is a well known publisher and developer of entertainment software which the company prides for being very interactive. The largest publisher in the world for the entertainment software, the firm has managed to develop entertaining programs for PC platforms and game consoles. Now a studio of Vivendi Games, it boasts of having copyrights of various entertainment softwares which are original and authentic.
