Company: Silicon Laboratories
Description: Silicon Laboratories is a leading mixed signal semiconductor company with headquarters in Austin, Texas. Former Crystal Semiconductors experts Nav Sooch, Jeff Scott, and Dave Welland created the company in the year 1996. Silicon Labs was also incorporated in 1996 under Delaware laws.
In September 2005, Dr. Necip Sayiner joined the company and became its President and Chief Executive Officer. Bill Bock serves as the Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration and the Chief Financial Officer. Jon Ivester is the Senior Vide President of Worldwide Operations.
Having an estimate of 550 workers all around the world, Silicon Labs entered the market of automotive electronics in Detroit, Michigan on October 16, 2006. This was also the date when the C8051F52x MCU family for automotive electronics was introduced. On February 8, 2007, Silicon Labs sold $258 million worth of Aero product lines to NXP Semiconductors, formerly Philips Semiconductors, virtually handing over its cellular communication business.
Silicon Labs purchased Krypton Isolation, a semiconductor company based in California, on the day of June 22, 2000. Two days after the acquisition, Silicon Labs bought Integration Associates, a semiconductor innovator.
Silicon Labs has worked with the world’s leading manufacturing suppliers. It has a ten-year relationship with the wafer supplier, TSMC. It also has collaborated with Carsem and ASE in its product test and assembly.
The company’s main product lines encompass three categories, namely wireline (directed by Dave Bresemann), broadcast (directed by Tyson Tuttle), and microcontrollers or MCUs (directed by Derrell Coker). Its product lines include mixed-signal 8-bit MCUs, broadcast audio/video solutions, clocks and oscillators, embedded modem and silicon direct access arrangements solutions, and interface integrated circuits (ICs). Mixed-signal ICs enable end-products like televisions, mobile phones, and set-top boxes to interact better with the consumers.
The product solutions developed by the Silicon Labs engineering team are designed using a standard CMOS technology. They serve end-users, computing, communications, automotive, and industrial markets and applications.
Silicon Labs has already teamed up with well-known companies such as Microsoft, Sony, Dell Computers, Samsung, Toshiba, and Sanyo. Recently, Silicon Labs bought a building in Austin, Texas and began to transfer its employees to the new office.
The official website of the company is at https://www.silabs.com.
