Description: Software 2000 was one of Germany’s largest video game developers and publishers in the early 1990s. In the year 1987, the Wardenga brothers, Andreas Watdenga and Marc Wardenga founded the company and based its headquarters in the district capital of Eutin, Schleswig-Holstein. The two founders developed and published games for the original platforms, Amiga and Atari ST, and later on also for different formats such as PC, Gameboy Color, and Playstation.

One of the company’s notable early successes was the release of the Bundesliga Manager series in the year 1989. The series of Bundesliga Manager (“The Manager” when published in Europe) was based on the famous German sport where the popularity of sports management genre in video games began.

Another successful release was its “Artventure” series, an interactive German-speaking fiction game. Software 2000 also produced a series of “Pizza Connection"/"Pizza Syndicate” and "Eishockey Manager" (Ice Hockey Manager) games in the mid-1990s as continuation to its successful production of manager games. In 1998, the puzzle game “Swing” was developed and introduced for the Sony Playstation.

Pizza Connection, also known as Fast Food Syndicate, is of the economical simulation genre for PC, which was licensed to Activision Value Publishing. The game requires the player to make and manage properly a thriving pizza restaurant series business. The player should manage and decide the location of branches, create pizza recipes, interior-design his firms, engage in global marketing and employ fast food advertising strategies, hire workers, and compete with other pizza businesses. The game’s every aspect is controlled by the player, including the kind of seats and the advertisement medium. The player also can choose his own banks in the game.

Due to the success of the game, a sequel called Fast Food Tycoon 2 was spawned by Software 2000.

The other video games developed by Software 2000 include Genius (1989), Wild West World (1990), Build it – Das Bauhaus (1991), Hexuma - Das Auge des Kal (1992), Death or Glory (1993), Christoph Kolumbus (1994), Ocean Trader (1995), F1 Manager (1996), Flying Saucer (1998), and GZSZ Fun Pack and Superball (2000).

Software 2000’s strategy of producing several titles with small development teams became fatal for the company when it began to face rising standards in games with full prices. With its sales falling and key people leaving, Software 2000 decided to file for bankruptcy in the year 2002.
