Initially it focused on the products of Macintosh such as NICs. It was not enough to sustain the company, however, so it ventured into other products as well.

The key product of Sonic Systems Inc. is the SonicWALL firewall that was launched in May 1999. A firewall is a tool that filters every packet data before passing them from one network to another.

SonicWALL has a VPN accelerator and network devices for an infinite number of network nodes. Another remarkable feature is its capability to boot up in just a few seconds. The absence of a hard disk drive makes it faster.

SonicWALL has three main types with specifications that are appropriate with each user’s need. The first is the basic SonicWall firewall, which has two network connections, the 10-node accommodating LAN, and the WAN. The node number can be increased without limit in the Plus version of SonicWALL.

The second form is the SonicWALL DMZ. It has a third network connection that permits a third network or DMZ (DeMilitarised Zone) to be linked to the system. This DMZ provides public services security and protection from external attacks through a complete firewall yet still retains its visibility. In the event a hacker manages to infiltrate the DMZ, a full firewall is still to be broken through to reach the LAN.

Last is the SonicWALL PRO which uses a more rapid processor with its standard being the VPN. Its mechanism results in the provision of superior throughput.

In 1988, the company’s contribution to the IT industry was recognized when its SonicWALL product was made the recipient of an ICSA Firewall Certification. It was the first firewall device with a value of less than $4,000 to be ICSA-certified.

Sonic Systems products are primarily distributed in the United States, Europe, and Japan with other customers in the Asian and Latin American regions. Its products are carrying the trademarks Sonic Systems and Sonic WALL.
