Description: Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (Sun Dielectric) is one of the pioneering companies of recordable CD technology. Japanese Hikohachi Sato founded Taiyo Yuden on March 23, 1950 in Suginami-ku, Tokyo.

In 1964, after successfully marketing an ultra-small tubular ceramic capacitor for the transistor radio, the company established a research facility in Haruna-machi, Gunma-gun, Gunma. Ten years after, in July 1974, Taiyo Yuden launched the world’s first semiconductor ceramic capacitors. By then, Taiyo Yuden was already being publicly traded in the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It opened a research and development facility in Taiwan in 1998. In March 2007, Taiyo Yuden acquired Shoei Electronics Co., Ltd.

Yoshiro Kansaki is Taiyo Yuden’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Taiyo Yuden is a manufacturer and distributor of ceramic capacitors, inductors, circuit modules for power supplies, optical recording media, ceramic chip antennas, filters, varistors and NTC thermistors.

Taiyo Yuden produced several firsts in its field. In 1975, it produced the first SNR varistors for the micromotor. A year after, the company launched the first axial-leaded and tubular-type ceramic capacitors. In 1984, Taiyo Yuden also became responsible for the first 1210 case-sized nickel electrode multi-player capacitors with high capacitance. Four years after, the company produced the world’s first writable CDs (CD-R). It also launched the first recordable Blu-ray disc.

The company secured its ISO14001 certification from the International Standards Organization in 1997.

Sony PlayStation game developers and drive manufacturers use Taiyo Yuden’s CD-Rs. The company’s products are uncommon outside Japan because they are bought and rebranded by other companies such as Maxell, Panasonic, Plextor, Sony, Verbatim Corporation, and TDK.

The Taiyo Yuden corporate office is located in Taito-Ku, Tokyo, Japan. It has also established offices in various countries including United States, Taiwan, China, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and France.
