Description: Tanberg Data was established in 1979 as a separate division of the now defunct Tanberg Data Radio Factory, a manufacturing company dating back to 1933. In June 2008, Pat Clarke became Chief Executive Officer of Tanderberg Data. The board of directors include Gudmundur Einarsson, Chairman of the Board, who also served as the President from 2000-2007; Marit Doving, Per Ove Nerland, Svein Simensen, Bente Sollid-Hansen, Tom Bjornsen, and Bjorn Stanger. The company has its corporate offices and manufacturing facilities in Oslo, Norway.

In the 1980s, Tanberg Data introduced several storage products based on Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) standards. In 1981, it became a founding member of QIC committee for standardizing interface recording formats. It also produced its first streaming linear tape drive on the same year. This was followed by the company’s tape drives based on DLT, LTO, and VXA technologies.

During the 1990s the company established subsidiaries around the world and incorporated LCD video projectors intro their product portfolio. In 1996, Tanberg Data primarily focused on producing information storage products.

In 2003, Tanberg Data and its subsidiary O-Mass disjointed. In 2006, the company acquired Exabyte Corporation, one of the major technology companies listed in the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Tanberg Data is the leading supplier and manufacturer of backup and archiving solutions based on the technology platforms of RDX, SLR™, VXA, and LTO™. It also offers secondary storage products on disk-based solutions, auto loaders, media, libraries, tape drives, software, and hardware components for mainstream configurations.

In 2008, the company released the 500GB RDX QuikStor cartridges, convenient and ideal backup devices for the small-to-medium businesses market. It comes with the RDX FileKeeper Software to provide continuous protection and complete backup of all system and application data.

In the same year, Tanberg Data entered an agreement with Archiware. Under this agreement, Tanberg Data’s tape automation solutions are combined with Archiware’s PresSTORE, an integrated data management and protection software for Mac users. This combination offers maximum protection against data loss.

Major server manufacturers like Hitachi, IBM, Fujitsu, Fujitsu-Siemens, Apple, and Dell support Tanberg Data’s solutions. The compatibility of the company’s products with major operating systems and storage software applications enables these products to operate in diverse network environments.
