Description: Tektronix, Inc. is a company that is based in North America and is known for its measurement and testing equipment. This equipment includes products like logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and mobile and video test protocol tools. The company was established after World War II by Melvin J. Murdock and C. Howard Vollum. These people pioneered the triggered oscilloscope to the world in 1946. Tektronix was incorporated in 1946 and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

In 1951, Tektronix went from 12 employees to 250. By 1957, Tektronix moved across state to Beaverton, Oregon. Tektronix was the chief electronics supplier in the Oregon area. As of 1981, Tektronix had more than 24,000 employees.

Tektronix had many operations in Japan as Sony Tektronix for many years, which was the result of a fifty joint venture between Tektronix and Sony Corporation. After trade restrictions in Japan were lightened, Tektronix, Inc. bought out Sony’s share and became the complete and sole owner of the Tektronix Japanese operation company.

The Tektronix’s company objective has always been to design and manufacture equipment with excellent quality. Tektronix used many customized components to get an extra measure of performance and to provide their customers with a higher quality product. Tektronix was obtained by Danaher Corporation for a tag price of $2.85 billion USD in 2007.

Before, Tektronix was also known for its exemplary employee–employer relationships. Trust and confidence on an individual’s judgment were emphasized while strict rules and company policies were played down. Vacation and health benefits were enjoyed liberally and an openhanded profit sharing arrangement was instituted that gave 35% of the corporate pretax proceeds to all of the Tektronix employees.

Some notable employees or ex employees of Tektronix are Jane Auel, an author and a tech writer, Merril A. McPeak, a former US Air Force chief of staff and the Director of Tektronix and Delbert Yocam, who was the former President and COO (Chief Operations Officer) of Tektronix as well as the COO of Apple Computers.

Tektronix has expanded its development and manufacturing facilities to operations in other countries such as South America, Europe and even Asia.
