Description: Thomson Company was established by Elihu Thomson, an electrical engineer, with the help of Edwin Houston in 1879. Thomson is a video access solutions provider for the CME sectors.

Among the key people who make up Thomson include its Chief Executive Officer Frederic Rose and its Chairman of the Board Francois de Carbonnel.

In 1968, Thomson-Brandt combined with CSF to shape the new Thomson-CSF company. Thomson-CSF and Thomson-Brandt have seen nationalization in 1982 attributed to the hard work of Francois Mitterrand. In 1892, the company has combined with the Edison General Electric Company and was named as the General Electric Company. By the year 1893, Thomson-Houston was instituted in Paris, France. Thomson Consumer Electronics was built in 1988 and later became the Thomson SA. After the government of France divided Thomson-CSF and Thomson Multimedia’s defense and consumer electronics businesses, the company then underwent a string of trade dealings, including a Marconi PLC deal, prior to becoming Thales in the year 2000.

Thomson has entered the digital video business in 2000. Thomson has begun a move into broadcast administration, services market and facilities with the acquisition of Corinthian Television that later becomes Thomson Multimedia. Thomson Multimedia then acquired from Carlton Television the Technicolor business, an enterprise owned by Carlton Communications in the United Kingdom. Thomson also acquired Singing fish but then sold it to America Online in late 2004. Thomson bought more shares in the Celstream Technologies, a company producing engineering technology and equipment operating in Bangalore, India. Thomson then incorporated and acquired the softswitch manufacturer, Cirpack in April 2005.

In the middle of 2005, Thomson acquired PRN, a large in-store television firm in the U.S. Thomson bought this independently held enterprise for $285 million. It then re-acquired Thales Group’s Broadcast and Multimedia area in December 2005.

Among the services and solutions provided by Thomson SA includes the creation, supervision, access and delivery of video, for the Entertainment, Communication and Media sectors. It provides key solutions for mobile television, IPTV, broadcasting, online and professional video, out-of-Home Networks, media content management, Broadcast Networks and content security.

The company caters to clients such as broadcasters, studios, network operators (satellite, telcos, broadbands and cable operators) and to increasing range of professional users of videos.
