Description: In 1987, James Chu started Keypoint Technology Corporation. The company launched a series of colored computer monitors under the brand name ViewSonic. The success of the colored computer monitors under the ViewSonic brand prompted the company to later rename itself as the ViewSonic Corporation.

By the middle of the 90’s, ViewSonic was one of the recognized brands for CRT monitors. It held a considerable market share with NEC, MAG, Sony, Innovision and Panasonic. The company got ahead of its close competitors during the early part of the Twenty-first century. However, recent innovations on LCD technology have given the edge to Korean companies like LG and Samsung.

ViewSonic purchased the Nokia Display Products’ branded business in 2000. It also entered into a partnership with AT&T in the same year. It then started to offer internet appliances integrated with the AT&T WorldNet Service. Products under this line included wireless web pads, web phones, and LCD and CRT devices. The products are compatible with a number of platforms such as Windows CE, QNX, Linux and VxWorks.

ViewSonic was the first to offer Smart Display monitors. This was integrated in the Airpanel V150 TV launched in the early part of 2003.

There are 4 classes of the latest ViewSonic LCD monitor products which are currently marketed world wide. These include the VG multimedia range, the VA value range, the VX gamer range, and the VP professional range.

The ViewSonic Corporation also manufactures projectors, plasma displays, HDTV technology, tablet PCs, wireless monitors, and other mobile products. These were sold through resellers and distributors. View Sonic Corporation’s main markets are end-consumers, corporate clients, and government and educational institutions.

James Chu still stands as the current CEO. The president of the Global Products and Solutions division is Heng-Chun Ho. The Vice President for Sales in the Americas is Brian Igoe. The company maintains its headquarters at Walnut, California.

The yearly sales of ViewSonic amounts to about one million US dollars. It had an entourage of about 786 employees in 2006. In 2007, ViewSonic filed a request to raise $143.8 million in an initial public offering on NASDAQ. The company later withdrew the request in March 2008.
