Description: Founded in 2001, Vitelcom Mobile Technology is a company specializing in making EDGE, UMTS, CDMA and GSM/GPRS mobile phones. It operates in Spain, France, Germany and the Latin Americas, with production sites in Spain, Mexico and Brazil. Vitelcom has already supplied more than four million phones just four years after its inception.

With the introduction of the Movistar brand of GPRS handsets by Telefonica Moviles during the end of 2003, Vitelcom saw a significant advancement as a mobile technology manufacturer. Vitelcom has earlier obtained the exclusive manufacturing rights of the Movistar handsets. It was not the first collaboration between Vitelcom and the leading telecommunications operator in Spain and Latin America. Back in 2002, Telefonica chose Vitelcom’s EPSILON™ USB ADSL modem for the expansion of its ADSL technology in Spain. The EPSILON modem is powered by Conexant Systems, Inc.’s AccessRunner™ USB ADSL modem solution. Conexant is a leading company providing semiconductor system solutions for communication applications.

To provide customers with the most advanced and reliable mobile handsets, Vitelcom took over Skyworks Solutions, Inc.’s GSM/GPRS cellular system solution business in 2003. As one of the leading companies in semiconductor manufacturing, Skyworks possesses the technology enabling Vitelcom handsets to feature high-quality color LCD displays, tri-band, polyphonic ringtone melodies and downloadable games. In the same year, Vitelcom acquired license to use Zi Corporation’s eZiText® predictive text input technology in Vitelcom mobile phones. This partnership with Zi Corporation, a leading provider of innovative interface solutions, extended both companies’ market reach by providing text technology to Telefonica subscribers.

In 2004, Vitelcom started using the CDMA2000 RF subsystem, another Skyworks technology. Equipped with transmitter, receiver, power amplifier, and baseband analog processor, the CDMA2000 RF subsystem gave Vitelcom’s handset product line a radio capability feature. The CDMA2000 RF subsystem supports various band and mode configurations, including full CDMA/AMPS/PCS/GPS RF subsystems and single-band CDMA mode. During the same year, Vitelcom signed an agreement with Elcoteq Network Corp., a world-renowned provider of electronics manufacturing services for communications technology. The said deal has allowed Elcoteq to manufacture Vitelcom’s CDMA mobile phones on an installed ATO basis. This enabled Vitelcom to concentrate on developing more communication products while relying on Elcoteq in manufacturing, testing, packaging, and logistics.

Vitelcom has partnered with Grundig Multimedia in 2005 to develop the Grundig mobile product brand. The brand showcases both Grundig’s awareness in the entertainment technology area and Vitelcom’s high-quality technology and flexible business models.
