Description: VTech is one of the largest suppliers of cordless and corded telephones in the world. It is also a leading consumer electronics company. It was established in October 1976 in Hong Kong. It was started by two engineers led by Allan Wong Chi Yun.

Some of VTech’s listed key executives include Allan Wong Chi Yun, the Chairman and Group executive Officer; Edwin Ying Lin Kwan, Executive Director and Group Chief Operating Officer; Pang King Fai, Executive Director and Group Technology Officer; and William Kwok Lun, Michael Puk Sun and Patrick Shui Chung who are appointed as Independent Non-Executive Directors in 2001.

In 1978, the company introduced to the market its first portable electronic game that uses a single chip microprocessor. This technology was expanded to include a wide range of electronic learning applications. By 1980, the Lesson One (still using book type) was launched in the market with the table top version released the following year. Vtech introduced in 1983 its PC range Laser 100. It is an in-house ASIC chip design (custom integrated circuit). In the following year the US market saw the self-designed satellite receiver. By 1986, Vtech dominated the US market in terms of electronic learning aids. The group used the name Video Technology International (Holdings) Ltd for listing in Hong Kong and by 1990, it became private.

The company actively maintains its worldwide locations in Africa, Australia, Canada, China, CIS, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nordic, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, U.A.E., United States and the United Kingdom.

Through the years, it has become a major player in the Information Technology, electronics and telecommunications industries among others.

To date, the company maintains a global operation with nearly 30,000 employees and annual revenues of US$1.5 billion and still diversifying. The company invests greatly in research and development to be able to launch new products every year. In fact, it has around 1,600 R&D professional in Hong Kong SAR, Canada and mainland China. The system allows VTech to keep abreast of the latest technology and market trends throughout the globe. The company also maintains a state of the art manufacturing plant in China.
