Description: WinBond Electronics Corp. is a computer hardware company based in Taiwan. It specializes in designing and manufacturing memory products. It has been a member of the Taiwan Stock Exchange since 1995.

Since its establishment on September 1, 1987, WinBond’s main office was in Hsinchu Science Park. The company then transferred its headquarters to Central Taiwan Science Park in July 2008. The main office houses the site for research and development of memory products.

There are three main business groups in WinBond: DRAM Product Business Group, Memory IC Manufacturing Business Group, and Flash Memory IC Business Group.

The DRAM Product Business Group created Low Power DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) for WinBond. It conforms to the JEDEC standard for Low Power DRAM. It has Power Down Mode, Deep Power Down Mode, Partial Array Self Refresh (PASR), and Auto Temperature Compensated Self Refresh (ATCS).

The Memory IC Manufacturing Business Group, on the other hand, designed Synchronous DRAM and Double-Data-Rate Synchronous DRAM. Synchronous DRAM and the CPU have the same clock speed in processing data. This makes the Synchronous DRAM the most important element in processing large quantities of data at very high speeds.

Its 3.3V line of Flash memory products is a development of the Flash Memory IC Group. WinBond Flash memories are industry standards. The Flash Memory IC Group designed these products for electronics with minimal power consumption.

WinBond’s W25Q SpiFlash® memories are now being considered as alternatives to ordinary Parallel Flash memories. W25Q SpiFlash® uses an 8-pin plastic SOIC that takes up less than one-fourth the space of ordinary Parallel Flash products.

W25Q SpiFlash® has a transfer rate of 40MB per second. This is six times faster than the performance of ordinary Parallel Flash memories. It is faster than Parallel Flash memories even when using less space and fewer pins. These products are used in DVD drives, DSL and cable modems, wireless LANs, players and recorders.

WinBond founded three subsidiaries: one in the United States, one in Hong Kong, and another in Japan. There are four sales offices found in Taipei, the United States, Hong Kong, and Japan. The company also has technical support centers and distributorships in America, Europe, and Asia.

The IECQ, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and QS 9000 have accredited WinBond for standard manufacturing process control and high quality control.
